1. How do I become a participant in the 150th Commemoration reenactment of Perryville?
To participate in the 150th Battle of Perryville you must read the rules and standards for your particular branch of service. If you agree with these rules and standards then you are invited to register for the event. Once you register you will be a participant for the 150th Battle of Perryville. If you have an unusual impression you must get approval from park staff before you can register for the event i.e. specific historic figures, religious or relief organizations, unusual military impression (sharp shooter, etc.)

Please follow the instructions for Perryville’s 150th Anniversary on this website. If you do not have internet access please call the park at 859-332-8631 and request a 150th event information package.

2. Can my wife and children join me?
All participants must have a 19th Century Civil War appropriate impression. Those with civilian impressions can participate at Perryville in two ways - either in the Living History Village (see info contained within this FAQ) or in the reenactor “camp of convenience.” This camp will not be interpreted to the public, but it will allow an area for family camping. This is a period camp and anachronistic items will not be allowed, nor will any modern clothing and there is no “after hours” in this camp as well. It simply allows for a family to camp in a period correct style. Military participants camping within this area will be expected to participate in all inspections, drills, battles and will be responsible for finding out the military schedule and adhering to it.

3. What are the uniform and camping standards?
All reenactor participant information is listed on this web site or you may call the park at 859-332-8631 to request information. Please read this information thoroughly as it will be adhered to during the event.

4. Where can I find all the rules for the event?
All reenactor participant information is listed on this website or you may call the park at 859-332-8631 to request information. Please read this information thoroughly as it will be adhered to during the event.

5. RV camping / modern tents?
There will be no modern camping or RV camping at Perryville. Please visit Danville Boyle County Tourism or Mercer County/Harrodsburg Tourism for a listing of hotels and camping facilities.

Participants will not be allowed to camp out of horse trailers. Camping out of horse trailers is defined as setting up tents, awnings, chairs and barbeque grills.

6. When are camps open?
Registration will be open at 1:00 on Thursday – October 4, 2012. Camps will be open at 1:00 on Thursday after you’ve confirmed your registration for the event. Participants will not be allowed to set up camp until they complete registration.

7. How do I participate in the preservation march/tactical?
You will complete the registration process and indicate on your registration form that you will be participating in the preservation march/tactical. You will need to be in the appropriate military staging areas by no later than 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening. The preservation march/tactical will be complete campaign style. No canvas or camp furniture will be permitted in staging areas or on march routes. Please be ready to move out quickly and leave no trace behind as we will be using private property for this part of the event.

8. Will there be campaigner camps?
The entire army will be as if on campaign. Once the preservation march/tactical is complete both Federal and Confederate forces will be stationed in fixed camps. Please refer to the section on Tentage and Camps in the event standards listed for our particular branch of service.

9. Can I register as an independent reenactor?
Individuals and unattached messes are welcome and invited to participate. We will work with you to find you an appropriate regiment/battalion.

10. How will my reenactor registration fee be used?
Every dime of your reenactor registration fee will go directly to the Friends of Perryville Battlefield. That organization is our non-profit group. This is a small group that does not have a permanent staff. They spend every penny on battlefield preservation and interpretation. The money you give them goes directly to the resource – the preservation of the Perryville Battlefield.

11. Waivers, Forms and Registration.
Once you’ve read and agreed to the standards for participation you will be invited to register for Perryville 2012. You will be directed where to find forms and how to submit those on the webpage or you may call the park to get these. You do not have to fill out waivers to complete registration. You may fill those out at the event, but to save time you may submit them with your registration.

12. Will there be a period civilian camp?
Yes – the Living History Village will recreate the wartime community of Perryville. No military will be housed within this area. Mixed civilian and military camping will be permitted in the “Reenactor Camp of Convenience.” Please refer to the rules and standards for participation for the Living History Village on the web at or you may call the park to get those standards.

13. I’ve heard we can’t have tents – is that true?
Neither army had canvas at Perryville; however, we understand that some participants require tents. In military camp we require either A-Frame tents of shebang’s constructed from gum blankets/ponchos. No wall tents will be allowed in the military camps unless some type of specialty impression is approved by the overall command staff well before the event date.

*Those wishing to camp family style in the “reenactor camp of convenience” may use period correct wall tents.
*Wall tents will also be allowed in the Living History Village.

14. What are the health requirements for horses?
Currently you must have a negative Coggins Test within 1 year of the event date. Health papers for in-state horses are within 1 year and out-of-state within 30 days of the event.

15. What are the requirements for horses?
Please refer to the rules and standards for horses at Perryville either under the CS or US cavalry sections at  If you are a civilian wishing to bring a horse please contact the park at

16. Do all military participants have to stay in military camps?
While it would be preferable for all military to camp within the military camps we realize that certain situations may prevent that. We don’t care where you sleep at night as long as you are aware of the military schedule and participate in all required inspections, drills and battle scenarios.

17. Can I walk on to participate?
We will not be able to accommodate walk on registrations. You must pre-register to participate.

18. Can civilians stay within the military camps?
Civilians will not be permitted to be housed in the military camps unless they have a functioning impression and receive permission of the overall US or CS military commanders well in advance of the event. Civilians simply cooking for a reenactment group will not be considered an appropriate impression for military camps. A “reenactor camp of convenience” will be provided for participants who camp family style.

19. What is the minimum age for military participation?
To carry a weapon at the Battle of Perryville you must be at least 16 years old. No exceptions!

20. I’ve heard that CS registration is capped – is this true?
Confederate to Federal ratios will be 5 CS to 3 US men. This means that for every 5 Confederate participants there must be 3 Federal participants. Registration for CS participants will be capped at 500 until Federal registration reaches 300. At that time we will allow participants to register as long as the 5 to 3 ratio is maintained.
