Participation

There are few near-pristine civil war battlefields left in existence today. Many battlefield sites have been the victims of encroachment by sprawling development. The Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site is also unique in that the Commonwealth of Kentucky enables you to reenact on the actual battlefield. In order to take advantage of this special privilege, it is important to understand and accept the purpose of the event and the expectations of the Kentucky Department of Parks. Please review the following rules and standards closely as all participants will be expected to abide by them. If these standards are acceptable to you, you are welcome to contact the park for registration information. If you have not received an invitation to the event and need instructions send an email or call the park at 859-332-8631 for more information.

Purpose
The primary purpose of the Perryville reenactment is to recreate, on a small scale, the events of the Battle of Perryville for the education and entertainment of the participants and park visitors. We should attempt to portray these events as accurately as possible, consistent with the available space, personnel, historic information, and other resources. This event is critical in our preservation efforts as it draws attention to and raises money for ongoing battlefield preservation efforts.

Standards
Agreement with Event Standards:

Completing and returning the registration form indicates your intention to comply with all standards for this event. Failure to comply with the standards set will result in expulsion from the event. Please register only if you plan to fully cooperate with the standards and spirit of the event.

Compromises in authenticity may be made to ensure the preservation of the health and safety of those involved. We recognize that no reenactment unit can achieve 100% authenticity in their interpretation, but we believe that striving for higher standards will be an achievable goal of this event. A unit’s desire to participate must reflect their acceptance of the standards of the event and willingness to participate in the spirit of the event.

Opportunities to Participate
The 148th Commemoration of the Battle of Perryville will offer an array of unique ways to participate in our event. In honor of the FEI World Equestrian Games our event will include scenarios where cavalry participation is sought and encouraged. The scenarios chosen will include ample opportunity for action by all arms and we are seeking infantry as well as full size artillery. Bounties will be available for cavalry and artillery. Rations and living history program available for all arms. The event will be a semi-immersion with a Military Living History program and the Living History Village. The following information will direct you on how to participate in each program.

For those of you who would like to attend the event but not participate in either the Military Living History Program or the Living History Village please refer to the following information.

Standards

Those opting to stay in the alternate campsite will not be eligible for living history program amenities. The ration and mail programs are for those in the military living history program.

Civilian standards – Please refer to civilian standards listed in Living History Village section.

Alternate Campsite
T
here will be a designated camping area for all those who wish to attend but that do not wish to participate in the living history programs. This includes: spouses, family members and those camping with family. This camp is for the convenience of the reenactors only and will not be open to the public or interpreted to the public. No anachronistic items may be visible in camp at any time. Participants must remain in period attire at all times during the event. All those with horse impressions (not cavalry) will be designated an area within the mixed camp.
